Museums in Cambridgeshire News no. 147 (25 October 2018)

Dear colleague

There is a lot of news this week:

  1. Firstly, congratulations and welcome to Luke Syson, who has been appointed as Director of the Fitzwilliam Museum.
  2. The MiC AGM will be held on the morning of 26 November in the Ede Room on 2nd floor of Kettle’s Yard. I will circulate the agenda as soon as possible. Kettle’s Yard is closed to the public on Mondays but reception will be available to let you in to the building. Please bring your own refreshments, as the café will be closed, although it is hoped that coffee will be available.
  3. The new returns schedule for Accreditation has been published by ACE at https://www.artscouncil.org.uk/accreditation-scheme/accreditation-how-apply#section-3. Please let me know if anything is unclear.
  4. The SHARE Fenland Museums Network has its next meeting on 20 November at Wisbech Museum. See http://www.sharemuseumseast.org.uk/events/event/fenland-network-lunchtime-networking-event/ .
  5. The next meeting of the Cambridgeshire Heritage Engagement Group (CHEG) will follow the meeting in item 4 on 20 November. There will be a joint lunch and tour of the Museum. More details will be mailed soon.
  6. The next SHARE training session for trustees, on financial strategy and governance, will be held at Ely Museum on 15 November.

  8. Appreciation also for Chatteris Museum’s decision to donate its ivory to the International Fund for Animal Welfare to protect elephants. For details see the attached release.
  9. Harwell Restoration are offering an emergency planning training day at Steventon on 28 November. This is for priority users, which includes all MiC members. See http://hdrs.co.uk/emergencycourse.html .
