A few items of news this week:

  1. The Museums in Cambridgeshire Spring meeting will be at the Farmland Museum on 27 April 2017, more details to follow.
  2. Burwell Museum and Windmill and looking for a Freelance Education Officer on a P/T contract basis, 4 days per month for 2 years. FREE COPYRIGHT ADVICE SERVICE – Naomi Korn, one of the cultural heritage sector’s leading specialists, will be providing FREE support for museums across East of England with copyright and related rights issues, by phone, email or Skype. Museums in Cambridgeshire News no. 67 (30 September 2016)

This week’s news:

  1. Please find attached a poster for free events around the County commemorating Cambridgeshire involvement in the Battle of the Somme. I am also mailing hard copies to every Accredited museum and would be extremely grateful if you could find space to display these and promote these excellent events.
  2. SHARE have some really good training opportunities over the next few weeks. Whilst none of them are in our County I would still strongly recommend them:

Museums in Cambridgeshire News no. 66 (22 September 2016)

Here’s this week’s crop of museum news:

  1. The ACE ‘Ready to Borrow’ first round application deadline is 14 October (see MiC News 58). I am pleased to say that four museums have contacted me about their applications. If anyone else is considering this please discuss it with me before submitting a project enquiry. I would also encourage bids for round one, if possible, because competition for round two may be greater.
  2. The MiC AGM was held on 15 September and a draft County museum strategy was circulated for comment. It is intended to revise this once the current benchmarking data are available in a few months’ time, at which point the draft strategy will be recirculated.
  3. Please get in touch with me if you would like to assist the MiC Treasurer with preparing the annual accounts and generally helping to manage MiC finances.
  4. With an imminent deadline of the end of the month for AIM grant applications, the Conservation Department at Norfolk Museums Service is offering help with applications. They can be contacted on 01603 223387 or you can contact the Conservation Co-ordinator helen.rush@norfolk.gov.uk for initial free advice.
  5. The University of Cambridge Museum are advertising for a Learning Associate at https://www.le.ac.uk/museumstudies/Jobs2/full_job_descriptions/45861.htm, closing date 29 September.
  6. The Fitzwilliam Museum is advertising for a Documentation Assistant at http://www.jobs.cam.ac.uk/job/11468/, closing date 16 October.

Museums in Cambridgeshire News no. 64 (8 September 2016)

Here is the week’s crop of news items for Cambridgeshire’s museums:

 

  1. I attach details of this year’s small grants scheme for which the closing date is 28 October. You will see that it is an eligibility criterion that your museum has paid its Museums in Cambridgeshire (MiC) subscription for 2016-2017. If you have any queries about this please do not hesitate to ask me.
  2. A Norfolk heritage organisation has sent me photos of some large items relating to the ship Mauretania which they wish to dispose of. Please contact me if you want to see the photos.
  3. The MiC AGM is at Ramsey Rural Museum at 10.30am on 15 September and an agenda is being mailed to members separately for this.
  4. SHARE have three excellent events in our County over the next two months: these include, firstly, the Volunteer Co-ordinators’ Forum event on ‘volunteering for wellbeing’ at Duxford on 21 September; secondly, trustee training at Ely on 17 October; thirdly, The Front of House Forum meeting ‘the welcome explored’ at Duxford with the National Theatre on 3 November.   5. I attach a flyer for an event on dementia and Down’s syndrome at Waterbeach on 17 September.
  6. The Cromwell Museum is being officially handed over by the County Council to the Cromwell Museum Trust on 10 September, with events starting at 11am.
  7. SEMFed has a study trip to Amsterdam in January for which there are bursaries available. Details through www.semfed.org.uk .
  8. The closing date for the second round of AIM Hallmarks Awards is 7 October. Details are at http://www.aim-museums.co.uk/content/hallmarks_awards/ .
  9. There is a growing need for suitably qualified museum Accreditation mentors. I would be pleased to hear from anyone who might wish to consider this as an opportunity for themselves.
  10. The Hertfordshire Association of Museums would welcome anyone who wishes to join their study day at the Bethlem Museum of the Mind on 22 September, directions at http://museumofthemind.org.uk/visit.
  11. The Fitzwilliam Museum are advertising for a maternity cover Exhibitions Co-ordinator, closing date 21 September (see attachment).
