Museums in Cambridgeshire News no. 88 (7 April 2017)

Dear colleague

Here is this week’s news:

  1. Firstly, please take a little time to fill in and submit the SHARE training needs survey, which is really important to help SHARE deliver the best possible calendar; http://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/SHARE-training-survey-2017/ and the Word version is attached. The closing date is 30 April.
  2. Wisbech Museum is calling for tenders for its HLF-funded options appraisal and project evaluation; please see the briefs at http://www.wisbechmuseum.org.uk/.

Dear colleague

I have to report that Ramsey Rural Museum have been burgled just before their season starts. The Police say that the burglars are targeting places with grass and are looking for sit on mowers, so if you have that sort of gear please double check that is it as secure as possible. In the meantime I’m sure you’ll join me in letting the Ramsey team know they have our sincere best wishes.

  7. The 2015-2016 Benchmarking statistics are now available at http://sharemuseumseast.org.uk/benchmarking/. There will be an opportunity to discuss these results at the MiC meeting (see item 1).
  8. Could you please let me know if you are planning anything to commemorate women getting the vote in 1918, as I am considering doing a project on this subject?

Museums in Cambridgeshire News no. 84 (10 March 2017)

Dear colleague

Here is this week’s museum news from the County (and a neighbouring one):

  1. Essex County Council is advertising for a Museum Development Officer (Maternity Cover), details at https://essexcc.taleo.net/careersection/ecc_external/jobdetail.ftl?job=10754&lang=en. Closing date Wednesday 22 March.
  2. This is a reminder that MiC members have access to the Priority User service from Harwell Restoration, initially until 30 September, as per MiC News no. 72. I hope to renew this service from 1 October, but please note that at this level the service does not include free recovery and transport of damaged items to a secure location. Emma Dadson from Harwell will explain the service at the next MiC meeting on 27 April (venue TBA). May I suggest that you note again MiC’s contract number PU1018 and the Hotline number 01235 434373?
  3. As a follow on from the last item, is it possible that any MiC member is able to offer emergency storage to fellow members? Please let me know (in confidence if you like) if you think you may be able to help with this.
  4. I am currently investigating how the County Council’s ‘Schools News’ distribution service works and will report what I discover.
