Museums in Cambridgeshire News no. 78 (17 January 2017)

Dear Colleague

There is an exceptionally long list of news this week!

  1. Wisbech Museum is advertising the post of Project manager for the HLF-funded ‘Fit for the Future’ project, closing date 17 February. Details of the post are attached. Last week the Museum and the project featured on Anglia TV at Search : wisbech museum | Anglia – ITV News.
  2. The David Parr House is advertising for a Project Manager and Audiences & Learning Manager for the HLF-funded ‘Life and Art in a Workers House’ project, closing date 9 February.  Further information can be found on their website news section  http://davidparrhouse.org/tours-2/ .
  3. The Museum of Cambridge is advertising two posts (Project Manager and Assistant) for their Esmée Fairbairn-funded ‘Tracing Traditions’ project, closing dates 27 January.   5. Congratulations to the Norris Museum on being awarded £50,000 from the SHARE Ready to Borrow programme. The deadline for applications to round two is 26 May at click here and there are complementary small grants at click here.
  6. Just a reminder of the excellent-looking SHARE fundraising event on 24 January at Introduction to Fundraising – Peterborough .
  7. Peterborough Museum is also selling a fascinating children’s booklet called ‘Issy and the Leedsichthys’, http://www.bigjurassicfish.com/schools/story/ (see attached).

Happy New Year and here are a few items of news to start 2017:

  1. Chatteris Museum invites you to a Must Farm exhibition at Chatteris Church on 12 January, 3pm-6pm (see attached).
  2. Please see the attached notice of an ACE-funded project designed to help small museums make links with industry, called ‘Symbiosis’.
  3. There is a seminar in London on 12 January to promote an ACE-funded museum volunteering project called ‘Volunteer Makers’, which has obvious parallels with our own SWIM project.   6. Chatteris Museum have some surplus Proceedings of the Cambridge Antiquarian Society, free to good homes. Here is the last items of Cambridgeshire museum news for 2016…

  1. For those of you who saw Alice Roberts’s terrific film of Must Farm on the TV a few nights ago (or even for those who didn’t!), why not visit the Roadshow in Chatteris on 12 January (see attached)?

  3. Kettle’s Yard are advertising for a Learning and Engagement Assistant, closing date 9 January, at http://www.jobs.cam.ac.uk/job/12404/.

  7. SHARE are offering bursaries to attend the Edinburgh retail conference (see attached form), deadline 12 January.

  1. Just a reminder of the excellent UCM/SHARE collection care conference on 20 January at Hughes Hall, Cambridge at http://sharemuseumseast.org.uk/events/3rd-annual-share-collections-care-conference/.
  2. The ‘Papworth 100’ heritage project (see attached brief) is looking for a film maker.
  3. The V&A Professional Development programme for Spring/Summer 2017 is now available at the V&A website and their dedicated LinkedIn showcase page. The full course booklet is also available to download here (PDF).
  4. The Museums Association is inviting tenders for research into museum mentoring. See http://www.museumsassociation.org/news/06122016-ma-tenders-for-research-into-mentoring-best-practice.
  5. The Arts Council’s Museums and Resilient Leadership Programme is open for application until 31 January. Go to the MRL website to find out more and follow the link to apply for the Programme.
  1. The Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology is looking for an Administrative Assistant, closing date 4 January, at http://www.jobs.cam.ac.uk/job/12225/.
  2. Saffron Walden Museum wants to borrow a wide-brimmed Edwardian hat, a 1920s cloche hat and some mannequin heads, for an exhibition which will run from the end of January to the end of July 2017. If you can help, please email Leah Mellors at LMellors@uttlesford.gov.uk.
  3. I realise it’s VERY short notice but I have only just heard about a rare opportunity to see the remains of a Medieval Augustinian Friary in Cambridge! The Archaeology Open Day is on the New Museums Site (see attached) on Saturday 17 December.

  3. The Stained Glass Museum is recruiting trustees (see attached information pack). They are looking especially for individuals with professional experience in any of the following areas: finance, development, business, HR/legal, education, marketing, retail and museums.
